Do I have to pay for the black box?

The cost of the black box and the box fitting is included in your premium.

However, if your policy is cancelled and a black box has already been fitted to your car, or had been fitted to a car you previously insured with us, you will have to pay a cancellation fee of £80. Fees will be subject to Insurance Premium Tax where applicable.

Will I have to pay for the box if I do not renew my policy at the end of the first year?

No – you will not have to pay any extra towards the cost of the black box if you do not renew your policy at the end of your first year of cover.

However, if your policy is cancelled and a black box has already been fitted to your car, or had been fitted to a car you previously insured with us, the cancellation fee will be £80. Fees will be subject to Insurance Premium Tax where applicable.

Who will contact me regarding the black box fitting?

When you take out your policy with us or change your car, our installations company, RS Fleet, will contact you within five working days to arrange a convenient appointment for a black box to be fitted. This will occur within 14 days of the start of your cover. They will usually arrange for the fitting to take place at either your home or place of work, between Monday and Friday.

Will I be covered before the black box is fitted?

Yes – you will be insured to drive your car from the date your policy starts. Once the black box is fitted we will begin collecting driving data.

However, we reserve the right to cancel the policy if we have been unable to fit the black box within 14 days from the date that you took out your insurance. Please see your policy documents for more details.

I don’t have a driveway – where can you fit my box?

The black box is fitted at a place of your choosing throughout mainland UK. It needs to be a safe place for the fitter to work, but a relatively quiet road or car park will normally be suitable.

What happens if a tracking device is already fitted?

That’s fine – it can remain in place. If necessary we can fit the black box somewhere else within your car.

I live in the middle of nowhere, can I still have a box fitted?

Yes, we can fit the box anywhere in mainland Britain (at present we don’t offer insurance to residents of Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man or Channel Islands).

Will the black box affect my battery?

The black box does use power from the battery, but it needs very little charge (less than a car radio) and should not drain your battery as long as it is in good working order.

Will the black box affect the electrics in my car?

No – the black box does not affect the workings of your car.
