What happens to the box if my policy is cancelled?

In the event of cancellation, the black box will remain in your car but it is deactivated by us remotely. If you wish, you can request for it to be removed once your policy has finished.

Please note: if your policy is cancelled and a black box has already been fitted to your car, or had been fitted to a car you previously insured with us, a fee of £80 will apply. This fee consists of a £30 administration fee, plus £50 to cover the additional costs we incurred when fitting the box to your car.

Insurance Premium Tax will be charged at the appropriate rate.

How do I get my black box fitted?

Our specialist team at RS Connect will contact you within 5 working days of your policy start date to arrange for the black box to be fitted to your car. They will visit your home or place of work or study between Monday and Friday at a day and time suitable to you – some Saturday appointments might be available.

You are insured from the moment you buy your policy but please note that if we’re not able to fit the black box within 14 days of your policy start date, we reserve the right to cancel your policy. We will give you 7 days’ notice in writing as described in your Private Car Policy Document.

What information can the black box tell you?

The black box monitors a number of driving related factors, such as mileage, speed, the time of day and the location of your car. It records any sudden impacts on the car, monitoring heavy braking or harsh acceleration. We’ll post a summary of your driving data in Your Portal, where you’ll also be able to see Reward Points awarded to you for safe driving behaviour.

Please note that we’re aware that occasionally you have no alternative but to use your brakes severely to avoid an accident; occasional use of “hard” braking will not be scored against you. We look at a number of factors to give an overall assessment of driving.

Do I have to get a black box fitted to my car?

Yes. We’re a telematics insurance provider and if you wish to get a policy with us, you will need to get a black box fitted to your car.

The black box will help us calculate a personalised renewal premium for you, and it’s your chance to track your driving and earn rewards. The box also allows you to benefit from features like the Accident Alert and Theft Recovery.

Do you inform the police or other authorities about speeding instances?

While we encourage safe driving and advise you to drive at a speed that is appropriate for the road and driving conditions, we won’t inform the police if you drive over the speed limit. We won’t release your driving information to any authorities unless we have your permission or we are required to do so by law, or we suspect fraud or attempted fraud.
