When will my policy start?

When you buy a policy you tell us the date you would like the policy to start, then you will be insured from that day – you don’t have to wait for the box to be fitted.

How do I tell you my circumstances have changed?

You must tell us straight away about any changes that may affect your policy. Please give us a call on 0330 022 0200 or speak to one of our agents via Live Chat on Your Portal.

Please note: this may result in an increase or decrease in premium. The following fees will apply for policy changes:

• £90 if you change your car
• £25 if you change your address, or add/remove a driver to/from your policy

If you make more than one change at the same time you will only have to pay one fee – whichever is the highest.

These fees will be subject to Insurance Premium Tax.

What happens if I cancel my policy?

You can cancel your private car insurance policy at any time by contacting us in advance of the date you wish to cancel.  You can find out more about this in your Private Car Policy Document which can be accessed via Your Portal.

We will charge you on a proportionate basis for either the period of cover you have received.

If your policy is cancelled and an in-tele-box has not been fitted to your car, the cancellation fee will be £30. If your policy is cancelled and an in-tele-box has already been fitted to your car, or had been fitted to a car you previously insured with us, the cancellation fee will be £80. These fees will be subject to Insurance Premium Tax where applicable.

You must return the Certificate of Motor Insurance immediately or otherwise advise us by email that the Policy to which the certificate relates has ceased to have effect.

Who provides Uninsured Loss Protection?

All drive like a girl policies with start dates from 01/12/14 include Uninsured Loss Protection. Uninsured Loss Protection is provided by ARAG plc. and the insurer is Brit Syndicates Limited, the managing agent for Brit Syndicate 2987 at Lloyd’s.

What legal cover does my policy include?

All drive like a girl policies with start dates from 01/12/14 include Uninsured Loss Protection. This is cover for legal costs up to £100,000 to reclaim losses, not covered by your policy, from someone who has caused an accident resulting in your injury or damage to your car.

If you choose to make a legal costs claim our provider will appoint a solicitor, or one of their agents, to handle your case. They will seek to:

  • Obtain compensation from the person responsible if you or your passengers have been injured
  • Claim back other losses such as your policy excess, replacement vehicle hire costs, travelling expenses, loss of earnings or damage to personal effects.

To make a claim, please call the drive like a girl claims helpline on 0330 022 0123.

Can other people drive my car?

Only if:

  • He/she is a named driver on your policy, or
  • His/her own insurance policy includes driving other cars (DOC) cover.

If someone who is not a named driver on your policy has an accident while driving your car, he/she will need to claim on his/her own insurance policy.

It is imperative that you check any driver is insured to drive your car before you let them use your car.

Why do I have to pay a fee to change the details on my policy?

The following fees will apply for changing details on your policy:

  • £90 if you change your car
  • £25 if you change your address, or add/remove a driver to/from your policy

These fees will be subject to Insurance Premium Tax.

The £90 fee for changing the vehicle on your policy covers fitting a new box to the new car. The £25 fee for changing any other details is to cover the additional administration required.
